Ways You Can Help Hurricane Irma Victims

Want to assist Hurricane Irma victims? Instead of raiding your closets and pantries for clothing, food, and blankets, the Center for International Disaster Information recommends donating cash, rather than material goods, to carefully vetted relief organizations. Or, consider donating your time by either opening your home to evacuees or helping to rebuild ravaged towns and cities. We at redwicks.com have been trying to figure out ways that we and you can lend a hand. 1. HELP PUERTO RICO REBUILD HOMES. Hundreds of Puerto Rico residents lost their homes in the storm, and many have been stranded without power. Local nonprofit ConPRmetidosis raising money to rebuild houses and provide on-the-ground relief and aid to hurricane victims. September is Self-Improvement Month!

Image
Did you know September is Self improvement month?      Makes sense… it’s the start of the new school year, and the evenings start to draw in. What better time to think about making internal improvements, having made improvements to your exterior over the spring and summer! Organizing isn’t just for physical items . You can organize your learning and your thinking, and this will help you achieve your goals. If you’re unfamiliar with, or just want a reminder of, some good “study” techniques as you launch into your self-improvement, here are some basic guidelines: 1. The Sacred Heart choir, in which she sang, made a pilgrimage to the Church of the Black Madonna, where she felt called to religious life. At 18 she left for a convent in Ireland. The sisters found her “very small, quiet and shy.” The next year she sailed to...

All you need to know about Labor day.

Image
As summer draws to a close and schools prepare to open their doors again, Labor Day comes around like a sweet salve to workers in the United States. Celebrated on the first Monday in September, Labor Day is one of just 10 federal holidays in the United States and pays tribute to the American workers movement. But while it is celebrated in modern times with BBQs , holidays and sales shopping , the holiday has a bloody history and came out of a long battle for workers’ rights in the country. What does Labor Day celebrate? According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the holiday is “a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers .” Labor Day is a “yearly national tribute” to the “contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well-being of our country.” In practice, all government offices and organizations are closed, while many private businesses also shut for the day to ena...
